Soucek red card overturned
Soucek red card overturned
Man Utd v West Ham (Tues, 19:30 GMT)

Simon Stone

BBC Sport

West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek has been cleared to play in Tuesday's FA Cup tie at Manchester United after his controversial red card was overturned.

It was the second decision in five days involving Mike Dean and Lee Mason that has been changed.

There were not many who agreed with the weekend call, although Hammers manager David Moyes didn't absolve Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic, who went down screaming and holding his face after the slightest of touches.

eswing, clearly no one suggested those names you mentioned, as they're pundits so there's no chance they'd do it.

And as I mentioned below, players from lower leagues. However Refs often support clubs and have been outwardly biased towards the bigger clubs so it's no different.

We need ex players to become refs like ,ohh l dunno, say Jamie Charrager , Glenn hoddle, Gary Neville , that type , you know, ones that would be totally unbiased .!

I think it's more the case of the football authorities being scared of/dictated to by their paymasters, the media.

This all keeps the brand in the public eye and more media minutes to hang advertising on.

Fuck the integrity of the game - sell those burgers! Shift that fizzy pop!

I thought Tony Cascarino's explanation was the best when he said that he has taken a T shirt off many times and accidentally elbowed his Mrs in the nose!

I understand that the fundamental problem is the set of guidelines produced by David Ellary at the IFAB. It is so prescriptive that referees, unwilling to be criticised by the powers that be, feel unable to use common sense.

Am I the only one who really does hope he dies then?

I've never been able to stand the jumped-up, bullied at school cunt.

That’s the problem, refs are no longer allowed to use their own discretion. This nonsense began with Tony Gale’s red card in the 91 semi final, and was cemented in place with Beckham’s red in 98 vs Argentina.

I don’t buy you need to play game to have an understanding. We can see what’s what even when watching from the stands and not seeing on tv. You just need an understanding of the game and refs should have that.

It’s a mentality that needs to change. The black and white they are taught. Sometimes they need to be allowed to use discretion and circumstances but they are scared because the FA hate that.

The don’t use because then people will say ‘well it’s inconsistent’. Some refs will do that better than others and to me that makes them better refs. The FA want robots that follow the laws.

That's my point Bolty, I don't think an ex-pro is allowed to be fast tracked (might be wrong) to say, start at national league level, so you get sort of geeky 14 year olds running the line at a local league on a Saturday afternoon, when they should be fingering their girlfriends (or boyfriends)!

Re ex pros reffing in future. All well and good until you get twats like Chris Sutton and Mark Bright who both thought that the red card was the right decision.

Mark Halsey on SSN talking about death threats.

He talks about people that wished his cancer returned, wished cancer on his wife and kids.

You have to be some kind of scum bag to think that, let alone say that. But how the hell is that a death threat?

Re: Soucek red card overturned
People who have played at the highest level will be able to officiate at the highest level, Jersey.

Most refs haven't played at any sort of level, hence why you see so many odd decisions.

Re: Soucek red card overturned
I think it's the amateurish approach of the FA, think how big the football pyramid is from local league level to the Premiership, it would take years to climb it and that's no different to referees. It's also why many ex pros don't do it because they can't be arsed to start off on a Sunday morning at Hackney Marshes!

Re: Soucek red card overturned
Find players from lower league divisions with no affiliation to any premier league club.

The refs clearly have a bias towards the so called bigger clubs.

But how do you find ex pros with no bias?

Re: Soucek red card overturned
I think Mike Dean and Lee Mason need to take time out from officiating other than Dean requesting not to be given a game this weekend. As they have both clearly been inadequate at their job in the past few games.

Re: Soucek red card overturned
Coffee, Ex pros have played the game even if they are a bit dim intellectually, they know the game.

Do away with this bollocks of putting your flag up 20 minutes after the play has moved on when it's clearly offside, none of these idiotic decisions by refs like we've seen by Mr Dean.

Find it odd how the players don't want to be part of it, I can only assume this is why there's no ex pros as officials.
